Immanuel steps up to help Refugee Crisis

Many of you are aware of the refugee crisis happening now in Tucson. Beginning about two weeks ago, officials at our Arizona border crossings began releasing from custody hundreds of asylum seekers to join their families across the country. Tucson, of course, is the first city of any size en route to their destinations. Personnel at the Greyhound bus station are doing their best to keep up with the influx of travelers, but due to the number of hurricanes that have wreaked destruction in the eastern US, it is taking longer than usual for these folks to leave Tucson for their destination cities (they can’t go any more quickly than the buses and trains). As a result, hundreds of families need supplies and temporary hospitality.
Several Tucson churches have stepped up to provide temporary housing to hundreds of people, along with clothing, food and water, toiletries, blankets, and most of all, volunteers who care and will lend a helping hand. These churches need our help. We have been in touch with a church very close to Immanuel to ask what they need and what we can provide, and they have given us the list below.
This Sunday, October 21, we will accept donations of items on this list, and Immanuel’s Missions Team and Session members will take the goods to the host church. The church also needs volunteers – hands and hearts ready to help. Please look at the list below and see if there’s something there that touches your heart. What would you or your children most appreciate if you stranded and basically had nothing? What can we provide? Here is the list. We, and they, will appreciate your response.
